OPERATIONS UPDATE: New October 1 Special Education Count Dashboard Now Available

ADE/ESS is pleased to announce the launch of the state October 1 Special Education Count Dashboard (Federal - Child Count and Educational Environments), the first publicly available ESS dashboard for featuring federally reported IDEA Section 618 data. It provides interactive access to annual special education child count data, allowing users to explore information by disability category, age, demographics, and other characteristics.

 

The October 1 Special Education Count Dashboard represents an important milestone in the agency’s commitment to making special education data more accessible, meaningful, and user-friendly for educators, administrators, families, policymakers, researchers, and the public.

Private Special Education Schools and Emotional Disabilities–Public (ED-P) Programs

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE)/Exceptional Student Services (ESS) approves Private Special Education Schools that provide specially designed instruction to students placed by public education agencies, ensuring they meet established state criteria. ESS also oversees Emotional Disabilities–Public (ED-P) Programs, which deliver intensive, specialized services for students whose needs cannot be met in traditional special education settings.

Special Education Data Dashboard

The Special Education Data Dashboard (SEDD) is designed to be a one-stop shop for public education agencies (PEAs) to securely view their unique education data and public statewide data with redaction. PEAs will also use the SEDD application to certify end-of-year data, which includes students who have exited special education during the reporting year and/or were subject to any disciplinary action.

IDEA Part B Data Public Reporting

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) has specific public reporting requirements. These requirements mandate that states publicly report on various aspects of special education programs, which helps to ensure transparency and accountability in the provision of special education services.

Data by SPP/APR Indicator

IDEA requires states to annually submit and report data on the status of meeting indicator targets.
