Special Education

The Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Program Management team distributes Individuals with Disability Act grant monies to eligible Public Education Agencies (PEA) throughout Arizona. The grant application process is facilitated through the grants management system. Grants are approved, amended, and financially monitored through this system. Programmatic monitoring for IDEA grants is facilitated between the program management team and the program support and monitoring specialist in ESS.

IDEA Entitlement Grant

The final regulations for the reauthorized Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) were published in the Federal Register on August 14, 2006, and became effective on October 13, 2006. The law requires that "the public agency provide a summary of academic and functional performance, including recommendations to assist the student in meeting postsecondary goals, for students whose eligibility terminates because of graduation with a regular high school diploma or because of exceeding the age eligibility for FAPE under State law" (§300.305[e][3]).

Employment First is not a program or agency, and we do not provide a service to individuals. The AZ Employment First Initiative is working with stakeholder groups across the state to redefine and rethink how we work with and for individuals with disabilities to increase successful employment outcomes.
