School Safety Program
Per Arizona Revised Statute 15-154, the School Safety Program is established within the department of education to support, promote and enhance safe and effective learning environments for all students by supporting the costs of placing school resource officers, juvenile probation officers, school counselors and school social workers on school campuses.
The School Safety Program is a competitive, state-funded grant that runs in three-year cycles. Arizona public schools and charters are eligible to apply. The next opportunity to apply will be spring, 2023. The grant funding will be for three school years: 2023/2024 through 2025/2026.

The Arizona Department of Education convened a School Safety Task Force to support LEAs in building safe and healthy school environments.
The School Safety Task Force's Final Report may serve as a guide for our School Safety Program Grantees. The report is less focused on threat assessment, physical safety, and crisis intervention, and more focused on school climate, prevention, mental health, and relationship building. Building strong relationships that are based on trust and grounded in evidence-based practices provides the basis to create school communities where all feel safe, welcome, connected, and ready to learn.
The School Safety Task Force encourages you to strengthen your current approach to school safety by considering the multi-faceted ideas contained in this report.
In addition, the Arizona Model School Safety Plan is designed to provide a comprehensive guide to establishing a safe, supportive learning environment by encouraging school leaders to examine all three domains of safe schools: Engagement, Safety, and Environment.
