SPED DATA UPDATE: FY27 Teacher Attrition Survey Opens November 1
ESS collects data annually through the Teacher Attrition Survey to support informed decision-making related to special education workforce recruitment and retention efforts in Arizona. Participation in the survey is mandatory for all public education agencies (PEAs) in Arizona.
The FY27 Teacher Attrition Survey will open on November 1, 2026, and will close on January 31, 2027. This year's survey has been refined to provide a more streamlined experience, including fewer questions, clearer and more consistent survey language, and targeted recruitment and retention questions to support statewide workforce planning.
Please see the attached memo for additional details.
Please note that failure to complete the survey by the deadline will result in federal IDEA funds being withheld until the survey is submitted. In addition, PEAs that do not complete the FY27 Teacher Attrition Survey by the deadline will receive zero points for the Teacher Attrition Survey measure within the Timely and Complete Data component of PEA Determinations, which may affect the PEA's overall PEA Determination score.
Resources, including a data collection tool and answers to frequently asked questions, are available on the Teacher Attrition Survey webpage. If you have additional questions, please email the ESS Recruitment and Retention Inbox.
Thank you for completing the Teacher Attrition Survey and for your continued partnership in supporting Arizona's special education workforce.
