EL Desktop and Program Monitoring

EL Desktop Monitoring

2022-2023 LEA Guidance Document to Support Cycle 6 EL Desktop Monitoring

EL Program Monitoring

Is EL Program Monitoring a new process for schools? When did it begin?

This is not a new process. Your LEA (Local Education Agency) has been assigned to have its EL Program monitored this school year in accordance with ARS 15-756.08 to ensure you have procedures in place to properly identify and provide services to students who qualify for EL services, as well as plans to monitor and regularly assess the progress of all current and recently reclassified ELs. Due to the current circumstances, OELAS will conduct this federally required program monitoring virtually, electronically and on-site (when applicable).

How was our LEA selected for this process? Was there a complaint against us?

LEA selection for monitoring is not determined by submitted complaints. Any LEA who currently has ELs enrolled in their district/charter qualifies for EL Program Monitoring. Outside of our top 50 LEAs with the highest enrollment of ELs, LEAs are randomly selected each year.

How many schools were selected to undergo this process this school year?

Every year, approximately 30-35 LEAs are selected.

How often can we anticipate undergoing this process in the future?

LEAs in list of Arizona's top 50 by EL enrollment are monitored on a cycle of every four years. For all other LEAs, the selection is random and cannot be determined.

2022-2023 EL Program Monitoring Outline

If your LEA is being Program Monitored for the 2022-2023 school year, all notifications will be sent to applicable LEAs. If you do not receive a notification letter by September 10, 2022, your LEA is not assigned to the 2022-2023 cycle of monitoring.
