The Arizona Department of Education has developed a new and exciting professional learning opportunity for principals, assistant principals, and other personnel charged with the responsibility of observing and evaluating teachers.
The Principals’ Academy, previously titled the Qualified Evaluator Academy, is designed to provide tools, strategies, and resources to assist evaluators in the observation and evaluation process. Spanning four days over the course of the school year, the Principals’ Academy begins with a two-day session focusing on the evaluation process, including engaging in meaningful dialogue around effective instruction, resulting in increased student achievement and teacher retention. The remaining two sessions focus on mid-year conferencing and the summative evaluation process. This four-day academy is a complete package for aspiring, new, and veteran principals, assistant principals, coaches, mentors, and other instructional leaders seeking to meet the criteria for being a qualified evaluator and improve their skills in the teacher evaluation process.
Completers of the Principals’ Academy will receive a certificate/plaque, related book, and lunch, and will meet the criteria stated in ARS §15-537(F)(4) for qualified evaluators.
