TrustEd Apps

Last school year, 31 Arizona schools embarked on a journey to test the feasibility of a collaborative effort to define policies and procedures in managing student data. The TrustEd Apps Student Data Privacy initiative was open to interested public schools in Arizona.

After six months of access to 1EdTech resources and collaboration among the group:

  • 40% of participating districts have board approved application vetting processes in place
  • 100% have shared dashboards for collaboration among the group
  • 34% report developing or changing their processes and procedures for application vetting based on learnings from this community of practice

“The greatest benefit of this experience was working alongside other districts to tackle this work. It was great to hear about their ideas, structures, and workflow with the same project and parameters that we face. The greatest takeaway is having a dashboard that includes detailed ratings from a verified EdTech company that we can now share and provide to teachers, staff, and eventually families.” – Flagstaff Unified School District

Now, we are excited to invite Arizona public schools to apply for participation in this community of practice in SY23-24. Participation is at no cost to schools, involves an annual membership to 1EdTech, participation in the Arizona Community of Practice, and sharing your district's policies and procedures with the group.

If you are interested and would like to learn more, please fill click on the button to fill out an interest form. Membership runs July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024.

The Student Data Privacy and TrustED Apps initiative provides public schools with expert solutions for the evaluation of online educational resources, including how such resources protect student data.

This initiative benefits local education agencies as follows:

  • ADE provides local education agencies with an affiliate membership to 1EdTech Consortium, a global community for supporting innovations and open digital standards for learning.
  • Access to the TrustED Apps dashboard with an industry-standard rubric for vetting applications for data privacy.
  • Resources provided by 1EdTech in the maximization of data standards to protect student data privacy.
  • Community support to define processes/procedures for the approval of online resources in their district.

“Created by the 1EdTech community, open standards are the best way to enable product choice, reduce cost, and make informed decisions with reliable data. The TrustEd Apps pledge gives all of us a collective and powerful voice to benefit every student, teacher, institution, and edtech supplier.” (https://www.1edtech.org/)

One that protects student data while also simplifying operational processes for schools:
    •    FERPA compliant
    •    COPPA compliant
    •    GDPR compliant
    •    Approved for children under 13
    •    Follows accessibility standards
    •    Follows interoperability standards

Data Privacy is only one of several industry specifications facilitated by 1EdTech. Other notable specifications that affiliate members have access to are:

    • Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI)
    • OneRoster
    • Competency & Academics Standards Exchange (CASE)
    • Digital Badges / Open Badges
    • Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR)
    • Others

An application process allowed for the identification of Local Education Agencies that would pioneer the implementation of TrustEd Apps in Arizona. This group of early adopters is testing the model and paving the way for Student Data Privacy in Arizona. Read more here:
