Teach Again

Thinking of returning to the classroom? It is easier than you think.

Over the last couple of years, the Governor and the Arizona Legislature have taken steps to increase funding for K-12 education. This has allowed school districts to meet the needs of their districts through various avenues, including an increase in pay, adding additional positions, and improving school infrastructure, to name a few.

The work that the Governor and the Arizona Legislature has completed has had a positive impact on improving the teacher shortage. However, there is still a need for qualified teachers. Have you thought about returning to the classroom? If you miss working with the students of Arizona, now is the time to return.

There are several options to help you return to the classroom. Please select the option that describes your situation the best:

Requirements to renew under this option:

  • A valid Arizona DPS IVP fingerprint clearance card.
    • To verify your IVP fingerprint clearance card, call DPS at 602-223-2279 to obtain information on steps to renew or obtain a copy of your card.
  • Documentation of required clock hours of professional development.  Review the Renewal Application for a list of qualified professional development activities.
  • A completed renewal application and the appropriate fee. The fee is $20 per certificate. There is no additional fee for approved areas or endorsements attached to your certificate.
    • Apply online via the AzEDCert Educator Portal.

Requirements to renew under this option:

  • A copy of your valid Arizona DPS IVP fingerprint clearance card.
    • To verify your IVP fingerprint clearance card call DPS at 602-223-2279 to obtain information on steps to renew or obtain a copy of your card. 
  • Completion of the Verification of PreK-12 Teaching Experience form, this must be completed and submitted by the district to [email protected].
    • If you are having difficulty obtaining verification from your former school/district, contact us at 602-542-4367 for guidance and assistance.
  • A completed renewal application and appropriate fee. The fee is $20 per certificate, there is no additional fee for approved areas or endorsements attached to your certificate.
    • Apply by mail to P.O. Box 6490, Phoenix, AZ 85005-6490. Note:  Applicants may not apply online at this time under this option.

What are my next steps?

  • Review the current requirements for the certificate(s) you are interested in.  You may re-apply for your teaching certificate under the current requirements.  There may be ways to meet some requirements, such as required exams, with prior teaching experience or other qualifications that you may already hold.
  • Check your Arizona DPS IVP fingerprint clearance card.
    • To verify your IVP fingerprint clearance card call DPS at 602-223-2279  to obtain information on steps to renew or obtain a copy of your card.
