K12 Military Community Liaison
The Arizona Department of Education supports Arizona’s military community through several targeted programs. This work is led by the Department’s K–12 Military Community Liaison, Lee E. Fernwault, an Arizona native and United States Navy veteran with more than 20 years of experience in education and service. In his role, Mr. Fernwault travels to each of Arizona’s five military installations and numerous local education agencies to recruit, support, and advocate for military-connected students, families, and educators. He manages key initiatives including Troops to Educators, DoD SkillBridge Internships, and Arizona Purple Star Schools. Prior to joining ADE in September 2018, he spent seven years as a classroom teacher for grades 5–12 and six years serving as an Assistant Principal.
