McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaisons

Statutory Requirements for Local Educational Agencies

The McKinney-Vento Homelessness Assistance Act requires that each local educational agency, such as public school districts and public charter districts, designate an appropriate staff member as its McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison for children and youth experiencing homelessness. The designated McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison must have the capacity to carry out the statutorily required duties of the position (42 U.S.C. §11432(g)(1)(J)(ii)).

Statutory Requirements for McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaisons

Each McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison is responsible for identifying, immediately enrolling, and supporting children and youth experiencing homelessness to ensure they have a full and equal opportunity to succeed in school (42 U.S.C. §11432(g)(6)).
