Special Education Directors,

Please share this information with appropriate personnel.

The ADE/ESS is pleased to present A Sweet Taste of Language Sampling: The SUGAR Method for Early Childhood SLPs, a virtual three-part professional learning opportunity for speech-language pathologists working in the preschool and/or kindergarten settings. The Arizona Department of Education is not an ASHA CE provider; however, these hours will count towards maintenance of ASHA certification. There is no registration fee to attend this training, but seats are limited.

About

Stacey Pavelko, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, FNAP is the Assistant Program Director for the MS-SLP program at the University of Saint Augustine. Dr. Pavelko’s research interests include improving clinical practices for children with language impairment, language sampling, interprofessional education/practice, and emergent literacy. She has published extensively in these areas in peer-reviewed journals such as Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, and Clinical Linguistics & Phonetics. She has been an invited speaker at the American Speech-Language Hearing Association’s Annual Convention and has presented at local, state, national, and international venues.

A Sweet Taste of Language Sampling:

The SUGAR Method for Early Childhood SLPs

Language Sample Analysis (LSA)  is an important part of a comprehensive preschool speech and language assessment. It can also inform the selection of targets for intervention and be used to  monitor progress. Yet, lack of time may be a barrier to its widespread use. You will leave this virtual three-part training prepared to use SUGAR— an easy, valid, evidence-based and totally cost-free language analysis method that can help make the routine use of LSA feasible for busy clinicians working in the preschool-kindergarten setting.
