316 Arizona Students Awarded the Arizona Seal of Biliteracy.

2017 Seal of Biliteracy Stats

In the 2016–17 school year, 316 students from seven different school districts and charters earned the Seal of Biliteracy in four different languages. Students came from the following districts and charters: Tucson Unified School District, Phoenix Union High School District, Dysart Unified School District, Cave Creek Unified School District, Pima Performing Arts High School, Catalina Foothills Unified School District and Deer Valley Unified School District. The Seal of Biliteracy was awarded for the following languages: Spanish, French, German, and Mandarin.

2017 was the first year that graduating Arizona students could earn a Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma and have it reflected on their transcripts. The seal was created to recognize high school students who are proficient in English and at least one other language, as evidenced by their performance on a state board-approved assessment.
