The ADE/ESS is pleased to announce that pre-registration for Teach Camp is now open!
Teach Camp is a year-long support system that includes face-to-face and online professional development specifically designed for beginning special educators. The goal of Teach Camp is to increase retention of special educators by providing our newest special education teachers with the tools they need to survive and thrive during their first years in the classroom.
Teach Camp will launch this summer and is designed for special education teachers who will begin their first or second year of teaching in the fall of 2019. Recent graduates from traditional teacher preparation programs, alternative certified teachers, and veteran general education teachers transitioning to special education are all welcome.
The cost of participation in Teach Camp is $150 and includes a 2 ½-day summer “camp,” one-day sessions in the fall and spring, all training materials, including the book The Survival Guide for New Special Education Teachers, a one-year membership to the Council for Exceptional Children, and some meals. It does not include travel or lodging.
Seating is limited to 100 teachers per region. Teachers, districts, or schools may indicate interest in attending/sending staff to Teach Camp using link below until Monday, May 13.
After submitting your online pre-registration form, you will receive an e-mail confirmation that your request has been received. Pre-registration does not guarantee a seat at Teach Camp.
The ADE team will review all requests and respond to all schools/districts by Friday, May 17 with the number of seats available to each district/school. Educators/schools/districts must register all special education teachers for Teach Camp by June 21. We cannot guarantee all seats requested; however, we will be as equitable as possible with the process.
