On August 19th, more than 100 stakeholders from Arizona gathered at the Arizona Health Department to discuss the suicide prevention strategies. The audience was welcomed by Governor Ducey, who reiterated his office’s support for coordination between state agencies and community partners in reducing Arizona’s suicide rate. Dr. Cara Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services, reviewed state data and reported some 1500 Arizonans died of suicide in 2018. Participants were asked to join one of six priority population subgroups. Within these groups, ideas were recorded on who else to involve and other resources available. The Arizona State Plan to End Suicide, along with other identified state resources, are available here.
