DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT UPDATE: ASDB Student Reporting

INTERNAL PD INFO: 2020 AT Builders National Presenter Series, "Make Learning Awesome for All," presented by Chris Bugaj

The ADE/ESS Assistive Technology (AT) team is kicking off its 2020 AT Builders National Presenter Series with Chris Bugaj, “Make Learning Awesome for All.” This learning series requires a commitment of four weeks, and includes pre-recorded videos that are available to view at your convenience.

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT: FY 2021 October 1 Data Collection

Program Area: Special Education
Public education agencies (PEAs) are required to verify the count of students participating in special education (SPED) on October 1, 2020. Verification will be completed via the web-based ESS October 1 Data Collection application, available through the ESS Portal via ADEConnect.

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT: FY 2021 October 1 Data Collection – Phase I opening delayed

Due to unforeseen technical issues with the October 1 Data Collection (ODC) application, the opening of the application will be tentatively delayed to October 5, 2020 or later if necessary. The Important Dates document will be updated accordingly. ODC users are encouraged to refer to this document for updates.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is the federal agency that leads service and volunteering in the United States, helping millions of Americans improve their lives and the lives of their fellow citizens through service.Schools, districts, public charters, non-profit organizations, colleges, universities, and other institutions are eligible to apply to bring AmeriCorps members to their sites. AmeriCorps provides funding for members who work under the supervision, guidance, and support of the eligible organization.

ADE/ESS is pleased to announce that the SY 2020-2021 Monitoring Manual is now posted to the Program Support and Monitoring website. ESS/Program Support & Monitoring (ESS/PSM) encourages all PEAs to review the manual for training purposes and to ensure compliance with the state general supervision system.

DATA UPDATE: Federal Fiscal Year 2018 Public Education Agency Determinations Released

Program Area: Special Education
Under Section 616 of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 2004 (IDEA), States are required to make a determination for all public education agencies (PEAs) of their performance on identified special education criteria. The Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2018 determinations have been posted to the PEA Determinations section of the ESS website.

DATA UPDATE: Post School Outcomes (PSO) Survey Data Collection Recognition

Program Area: Special Education
The ADE/ESS Secondary Transition team would like to thank those who participated in the 2020 PSO data collection season. The PSO Survey helps PEAs collect and report information to meet Indicator 14 requirements. Between June 1 and September 30 of this year, PEAs statewide worked hard to reconnect with former students who had IEPs when they exited high school during the 2018–2019 school year. Through their efforts, 6,659 former students responded to the survey for a 78.5% participation rate with 72.5% of respondents engaged in postsecondary education/training or employment. A more detailed view of this year's PSO Survey results will be posted on the PSO Website by October 31, 2020. 

USDOE & OSEP PD INFO: Education Technology Resources to Support SWD During COVID-19

During these unprecedented times, education technology has been called upon to play a central role to support teaching and learning. This webinar will feature short user-case video demos of five edtech resources that are ready now for use in special education, as well as conversations by practitioners and experts about the role of edtech in meeting the needs children and students with or at risk for disabilities during “the new normal” in education.

FUNDING INFO: Compensatory Service Claims Second Wave

ADE/ESS is pleased to announce that the Compensatory Services Claims application is now open for the second wave of applications through the ESS Portal of ADEConnect and the cap for funds has been increased for each public education agency (PEA). Each PEA can now apply for one or multiple compensatory education claims up to $25,000 for each PEA.

ESS/Early Childhood Special Education is pleased to announce the 6th Annual Early Childhood Special Education Summit on February 11—12, 2021, to be conducted as a virtual event. This year, the conference is sponsored by ADE/ESS, in collaboration with Arizona’s Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) within the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT: SPED07 Report Now Available

The SPED07 report is now available within the October 1 Data Collection (ODC) application for Phase II: Reconciliation. 

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT: New AzEDS Portal Report: SPED99 – SPED Orphan Data Report

Program Area: Special Education
The SPED99 – SPED Orphan Data Report is a new report now available in the AzEDS Portal.  This report will aid PEAs in finding special education (SPED) data in AzEDS that may have had the corresponding enrollment data removed.  When enrollment data is deleted for a given student but the SPED data remains in AzEDS, this is defined as orphan data.  Often this orphan data can result in errors for your PEA or other PEAs, that is unseen in your INTEG15 report, since the enrollment data is not present.
