YOUTH ARTS MONTH SHOWCASE DEADLINE EXTENDED UNTIL FRIDAY JANUARY 31st

Young Artists wishing to display their work at the Arizona Department of Education to celebrate Youth Arts Month in March have an additional 3 weeks to submit artwork! The call for Artwork for the Youth Arts Month (YAM) Showcase has been extended until Friday January 31st at 4:30pm. Submit your artwork to display in the Arizona Department of Education’s Jefferson lobby.


ABOUT

This year the Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Art Education Association are partnering to celebrate Youth Art Month (YAM) with a showcase during March & April. This collaboration will unveil ADE’s Brand New Student Art Gallery.

We invite schools to submit student artworks to showcase in celebration of Youth Arts Month in the Arizona Department of Education’s Jefferson Building. A reception will be held Friday March 6th from 6-7:30pm at the Arizona Department of Education Jefferson Building to present awards in Elementary, Middle, and High School grade bands and to celebrate the excellent art education happening in Arizona Schools.


SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Open to ALL public-school students grades K-12!

• Each teacher may submit up to 2 student artworks per grade band K-4, 5-8, 9-12.

• Frames will be provided by ADE sized 8×10, 9×12, 12X12, 11×14, 16×20, and 18×24.

• Work must be matted or mounted to one of these sizes on a black mat with artwork labels attached to the front and ready to be framed. Works not following these guidelines may not be eligible for display.

Art and Architecture Summer Camps at Taliesin West

Did you know Taliesin West offers summer camps on Art and Architecture for young people?

Combining creativity with academic relevance, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s innovative Summer Art and Architecture Camps give campers the opportunity to think and work outside the box. Located at Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and desert laboratory, the Summer Art and Architecture Camps encourage participants to explore, create, and design as they engage in fun and educational activities. At the end of each week families and friends will be invited up to Taliesin West to see a showcase of the campers’ work!

ADJUDICATION: $20 for AzDEO/NDEO members; 25 for non-members

AzDEO Student Opportunities: Dance Education Advocacy Essay Contest & Student Choreography Contest

 

 

 

AzDEO 2019-20 Dance Education Advocacy Student Essay Contest 

Open to grade levels 7th-post secondary.

This year’s theme: “How has dance helped you navigate school and your education?”

Cash awards given to support the student’s dance program.

Essays are due Oct 15th.

AzDEO Student Choreography Contest

AzDEO announces its Student Choreography Contest for 2019-2020. Students in Middle and High School, and College are encouraged to submit their choreography for adjudication.

Criteria:

  • Must be based on the given theme. This year the theme is “Making a Change: It Only Takes One” (Choose a topic/idea important to you and show in your choreography the process of how you as one person can make a change).
  • Maximum length is 4 minutes.
  • Only the choreography will be judged, but performance can affect the quality of the choreography.
    1. Choreographer does not have to be a performer.
    2. Choreography Criteria
      • Composition, Originality/Creativity, Visual Effect, Interpretation of   Accompaniment

    2. MP4 format only
    3. Must include your name, age, school at the beginning of the video, and a written artistic statement also submitted (include your name, age and school).

YoungArts’ National Arts Competition for 15-18 Year Old Visual, Literary, or Performing Artists

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

YoungArts’ signature program is an application-based award for emerging artists ages 15–18 or in grades 10–12 from across the United States. Selected through a blind adjudication process conducted by an independent panel of highly accomplished artists, YoungArts winners receive valuable support, including financial awards of up to $10,000, professional development and educational experiences working with renowned mentors, and performance and exhibition opportunities at some of the nation’s leading cultural institutions. Joining a 20,000-strong alumni community, they receive creative and professional development opportunities and connect with an extraordinarily rich network of peers.

ASU Digital Culture Summer Institute for Young Makers

Young makers, engineers, and artists ages 12-18!

Join Arizona State University faculty this June 10th–28th at the Digital Culture Summer Institute and make your own games, interactive art, robots, videos, digital music, and 3D design. Use the latest tools and methods in digital fabrication and media production as you learn to fuse the creative worlds of art and engineering.
