La Bohème Student Night at the Opera

To be an aspiring artist in 1830s Paris was to be poor—but happy. When Mimì enters the poet Rodolfo’s apartment in search of a flame to light her candle, the pair ignite a romance that burns brilliantly through the ages. The passion and struggle of Rodolfo and his fellow bohemians come to life in Puccini’s timeless masterpiece, one of opera’s most popular and engaging stories. Call for Student Voice at the 2020 ESSA Conference

The 2020 ESSA Conference “Educating the Whole Child” at the We Ko Pa Conference and Resort Center February 19-21 is seeking to feature student performers and panelists to highlight examples of well-rounded education in the state. Fill out an application to showcase student voice in one of the following two ways:

Student Performance Group: Student performance groups will showcase 15 minute performances during whole group sessions, breaks in programming, or at close of conference day for over 500 educational leaders from through out the state.

Student STEM/STEAM Panelists: Student STEM/STEAM panelists will co-present a 10 minute break outsession on a panel with an educator that highlights integrated learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

2020 ESSA Call for Featured Student Performances

Highlight the ways your school provides students with access to a well-rounded education through the arts. The Arizona Department of Education is seeking featured student performances for the 2020 ESSA Conference February 19-21 at the We Ko Pa Resort Conference Center. We are looking to feature student performance groups in theatre, dance, or music.

Featured students will present their work at the We Ko Pa Resort and Conference Center preceding or following a whole group session, during a scheduled break, or at the close of the event day.

Past performance groups have included:

  • Contemporary Rock Bands
  • Concert Choirs
  • Modern Dance Ensembles
  • Mariachi Performances
  • Orchestras
  • Solo Performers
  • Bands
  • A Capella Choirs

Application requirements:

  • Arizona District or Charter School
  • Performance selections should not exceed 15 minutes in length

2020 ESSA Call for Student STEM/STEAM Panel Presentations

Highlight an integrated, hands-on student learning project at your school! The Arizona Department of Education is seeking student presentations for a panel on STEM & STEAM education at the 2020 ESSA Conference February 19-21 at the We Ko Pa Resort and Conference Center.

STEAM Education is an integrated approach to teaching Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

Application requirements:

  • Arizona District or Charter School
  • Presentations 10 Minutes in length
  • Teacher and 2-3 students
  • Feature STEM & STEAM Learning

The Rock Teen Center Performs at Grand Opening of Ike’s Love & Sandwiches

 

Alice Cooper’s The Rock Teen Center will be having live music at the Grand Opening for Ike’s Love & Sandwiches in Scottsdale on May 4th. The event begins at 11:00am and it will be all day. Ike’s will be donating some of the sales that day to Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock and some of our young musicians will be performing from 11:00am – 2:00pm. The address is 7369 N. Paso Via Del Sur, Scottsdale, AZ (right by the Starbucks).

Ike’s has been on Man Vs. Food and many other television shows. Their sandwiches are world renowned and at their first store in San Francisco, people wait over an hour to order a sandwich.

Bright Star Touring Theatre Booking in Arizona

Bright Star Touring Theatre is coming to Arizona to share their educational performances with schools in our state. Bright Star will be in Mesa from 9/16-20 and is available in other parts of the state for shows on either side of those dates. Bright Star works on the model – “1 van, 2 actors, 3 shows, 45 minutes each!” As such, the tour that is heading to Mesa in September is travelling with three shows from our Fall Tour 4 (click the link for show descriptions):

Captain Friendship: An Antibullying Superhero Adventure (Best for grades K-5)

A Tell-Tale Tale: The Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe (Grades 3+ – but best for Middle School/High School)

Igor and the Masters of STEM (Grades K-6)
