Congratulations Arizona Art Educators Association Visual Art Teachers of the Year

Happy Youth Arts Month! Today we are highlighting two educators from Scottsdale Unified School District who received the Arizona Art Educators Association Teacher of the Year Award. Thank you Cathy Saraniero visual arts teacher at Cocopah Middle School and Michelle Peacock visual arts teacher at Saguaro High School for your dedication to excellence in arts education! Your students benefit every day from your hard work & the creativity you bring to the classroom.

Cathy Saraniero is the visual arts teacher at Cocopah Middle School in the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD).  She has been a member of the SUSD community for 14 years.  She is a leader in our arts education community and strives to create unique and meaningful opportunities for all of her students.

In November 2018, Ms. Saraniero was named the state’s Outstanding Middle School Art Educator by the Arizona Art Education Association. Her leadership in the organization, active participation in the arts education community and portfolio of student work speaks to her dedication to her students.

Michelle Peacock has been with SUSD for 15 years, and her impact on our arts community cannot be overstated.  She has taught at all grade levels and in all art mediums.  At Saguaro, Ms. Peacock continues to push her students to achieve beyond what they think they can do through a variety of on- and off-campus partnerships.  Most recently, she has overseen a huge project to add murals to the walls of the Saguaro Auditorium.

In 2017, Ms. Peacock was named the Arizona’s Outstanding Secondary Art Educator; in November 2018, she was named the Arizona Art Educator of the Year by the Arizona Art Education Association.  This peer-nominated award is a testament to her commitment to arts education and leadership throughout the state.
