Achievement Tutoring | Parents & Families
The Achievement Tutoring Program seeks to provide high-quality tutoring to Arizona students in the subjects of reading, writing, and math who are not testing proficient in those areas and do not qualify for an already existing tutoring program. Existing tutoring programs include the following:
- State Tutoring - If your student is enrolled in a D or F school, a tutoring program already exists for your student. To enroll your student and learn more, please visit the State Tutoring website.
The tutoring program will be available only to students in grades 1-8 who were in school during the pandemic. Students will participate in six-week tutoring blocks with a pre- and post-test aligned with Arizona State Standards and the Arizona Academic Standards Assessment (AASA). Students can expect to receive 60 minute tutoring sessions for up to four days a week during the six-week block. Tutoring can be done in small groups of no more than three students. The tutoring sessions may be completed in-person or online.
If you are interested in having your student be a part of the Achievement Tutoring program and they do not qualify for an existing program, please complete the Interest Form.
As we are in the process of securing tutoring providers, test providers, and communicating with schools and districts, your interest will be recorded with the Arizona Department of Education. We will send out communications to update interested parties as details are finalized. When the process is finalized, your information will be shared with your school or district. They will contact you about the next steps to provide services to your student and what your options are.
While there may be some limits due to high demand, the program aims to accommodate as many sessions as necessary to support your student's learning.
Yes. You will first receive notice through your local school or district to set up tutoring sessions.
At the beginning of each six-week tutoring session, your student will be assessed using an exam selected by ADE to determine what your student's needs are. The tutor will then focus on the areas of highest need. At the end of the six-week tutoring block, your student will be assessed using an ADE selected post-test.
Yes. We encourage and welcome open lines of communication between the parent and the tutor whether your student is tutored at school or by a tutoring provider.
The Achievement Tutoring Program is free to parents and students. The Arizona Department of Education is using ESSER III funds to provide tutoring for students who have been impacted during the pandemic.
We are currently reviewing the Request for Proposals and Assessments for the Achievement Tutoring program. At this time there is no definite start date.
