Special Education Directors,Are you looking for Speech-Language Pathologists or Speech-Language Pathology Assistants?From November 17–19, 2022, ADE/ESS will staff a recruitment booth on behalf of all public education agencies in Arizona at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (AHSA) annual national convention. Over 20,000 SLPs and graduate students attend ASHA’s convention each year.

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT: Two-week Reminder: Statement of Assurances is due 06/15/2023

Program Area: Special Education
The FY24 Statement of Assurances application is open for submission. All PEAs must submit the IDEA Statement of Assurances (SOA) through the ESS Portal of ADEConnect. This is required before any FY24 activities in the Exceptional Student Services portal are allowable. The portal will block any PEA that has not completed the SOA after the deadline.

SPED DATA INFO: Indicator 8 Parent Involvement Survey Opens January 19

Program Area: Special Education
All school districts and charter schools are required to annually administer the State Performance Plan Indicator 8 Parent Involvement Survey to parents of students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The survey will open January 19 ADEConnect ESS Data Surveys. For more information, visit the survey web page.

DATA MANAGEMENT ALERT: New LRE Decision Tree Documents now available

A new series of LRE decision tree documents have been made available on the ESS Data Management website. These documents will provide a roadmap and assist in determining the correct LRE code for students with disabilities. PROGRAMMATIC MONITORING UPDATE: 2022-2023 Programmatic Monitoring Manual Now Available

Special Education Directors,ESS/Program Support and Monitoring (PSM) is proud to announce the release of the SY 2022–2023 Programmatic Monitoring Manual. This manual is a critical document for public education agencies (PEAs) participating in monitoring activities and can also be used by all PEAs to self-assess programmatic strengths and needs. 

RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION INFO: Teacher Attrition Survey Opens November 1, 2022

Special Education Directors,ESS collects data each year through the Teacher Attrition Survey to make informed decisions about recruitment and retention efforts in Arizona. Participation in the survey is mandatory for all public education agencies in Arizona.For the past few years, the survey has opened in February and closed in May of each fiscal year. This school year, the Teacher Attrition Survey will open on November 1, 2022, and close on January 31, 2023.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION INFO: Facilitated IEP Training and Request Updates!

Both state and national trends point to an increase in the frequency and intensity of special education disputes. More than ever, all members of the IEP team would benefit from exploring additional tools and strategies for strengthening collaborative decision-making and building consensus. The ADE/ESS Dispute Resolution unit is pleased to offer a variety of professional learning opportunities, free of charge, to public education agencies (PEAs) seeking to establish or strengthen a facilitated IEP culture.
