Special Projects
The Special Projects unit supports PEAs, educators, families, and community partners across Arizona in improving outcomes for students with disabilities in the areas of assistive technology, secondary transition, and youth engagement. Through professional learning and technical assistance within IDEA’s general supervision framework, Special Projects helps build local capacity to implement evidence-based practices that strengthen services, increase meaningful participation, and improve access to effective supports for students with disabilities.
Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology (AT) refers to devices, equipment, software, or product systems that are used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities.
IDEA Conference
The IDEA Conference is a cross-stakeholder professional development event for special education administrators and educators, related service providers, youths with disabilities, their families, and community members committed to student success.
Secondary Transition
Secondary Transition serves as a bridge from school to adult life, aiming to improve postsecondary success for youths and young adults with disabilities through evidence-based best practices and measured through specific IDEA Part B Indicators 1, 2, 13, and 14 (Post School Outcomes).
Youth Engagement
Through youth engagement initiatives, students with disabilities are inspired to lead, engage, and achieve. Special Projects is dedicated to empowering students with disabilities by amplifying their voices and fostering meaningful engagement.
