The Special Projects Unit is comprised of multiple programs that are quite distinct from each other. These programs focus on the following functions:

 

Assistive Technology (AT) / Joyce Palmer, Bruce Kennedy and Mary Keeney, Assistive Technology Specialists
The Assistive Technology (AT) team provides ongoing statewide assistive technology training, technical assistance, and resources to guarantee that all students and school personnel have equal access to appropriate AT strategies and services.

 

Data Management / Peggy Staples, Data Management Supervisor
The ESS Data Management program is responsible for the collection, review, validation, verification, and analysis of special education data in Arizona.

 

Secondary Transition / William McQueary and Lorrie Sheehy, Karen Johnson Transition Specialists
The Secondary Transition program works with student, families, school personnel, and other state agencies to address transition planning.

 

Secure Care / Leann Gilbreath and Paul Johnson, Secure Care Specialists
The Secure Care program works toward successful reintegration of students from secure care facilities to community and life.

 

Traumatic Brain Injury
The Traumatic Brain Injury program provides continuing education opportunities, focused topical training, and on-site consultation in order to meet the needs of children who have sustained traumatic brain injuries.
