Effective Teachers and Leaders (formerly Title II-A) is responsible for increasing student academic achievement through strategies such as improving teacher and principal quality and increasing the number of highly qualified, effective teachers in the classroom and highly qualified, effective principals in schools. Effective Teachers and Leaders staff work closely with LEAs (Local Educational Agencies) to provide guidance, strategies, and resources to:
- Improve the effectiveness of teachers and leaders
- Achieve equitable distribution of effective teachers
- Support targeted professional development based on identified needs
- Assist with the implementation of the Arizona Framework for Measuring Educator Effectiveness
The Effective Teachers and Leaders unit is also responsible for Pay for Performance initiatives (Proposition 301 and Career Ladder), Alternative Pathways to Teacher Certification and National Board for Teaching Standards Certification Subsidy and Support Program, development of the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments (AEPA), and approval of Professional Preparation Programs.
