CACFP Required Classes

Initial Required Training for New Sponsors

If you are new to CACFP, the following training classes are REQUIRED:

  • Business Track – an administrator providing direct oversight of the program must attend.
  • Nutrition Track – a food service representative from your organization must attend.
  • Computer Track – a representative responsible for submitting online claims must attend.

In addition, it is highly recommended that any new food service personnel of continuing participating sponsors attend these important training classes as well. Please review the program descriptions below for more detail regarding materials and pre-requisites for each training class.

CACFP Class Descriptions

Business Track
Business Track Training provides an overview of the Child and Adult Care Food Program. It defines the goal of the program, who can participate, eligibility requirements, the application process, record keeping requirements, and the reimbursement process. It is REQUIRED for new sponsors who wish to participate in the program. Please bring a calculator for this class.

Nutrition Track
Nutrition Track Training covers the basics of nutrition as well as safety and sanitation issues. Food personnel will learn about the CACFP meal pattern requirements for infants, children, and adults, and also learn how to create healthy menus. Food personnel will be introduced to the Creditable Foods Buying Guide and will leave the training with the understanding of how to complete production worksheets and food service cost reports. It is REQUIRED for new sponsors who wish to participate in the program.

Computer Track
Computer Track Training is required for any food service personnel responsible for submitting claims. This is not a beginning computer class, you are expected to be computer literate. The main focus of the training is on submission of online monthly reimbursement claims. Pre-requisite; Business Track Training.
