What is Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP):
A nutritional, educational and meal reimbursement program helping Day Care facilities provide healthy and nutritious meals and snacks to children and adults. The CACFP also plays a critical role in creating a more affordable setting for low-income families throughout Arizona.
As part of the CACFP, the Older Americans Act of 1987 made reimbursable meals similar to child and school lunch programs available to adult day care centers.
Who is eligible to participate in CACFP:
Non-residential adults who attend a licensed day care center and are Title XIX or XX Eligible or 60 years or older.
What are the CACFP program requirements:
- be a public or private non-profit organization with tax-exempt status
- be a for-profit adult day care centers with at least 25 % of their total enrollment or license capacity, whichever is less, receiving compensation under Title XX and/or Title XIX of the Social Security Act.
- have a current Federal, state, or local license or approval to provide day care services in a group setting outside their homes on a less than 24 hour basis.
- develop and maintain an Individual Service Plan for every functionally impaired participant
What must be included in meals:
Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, Whole Grains, Low/Non-Fat Dairy and Meat or Meat Alternative-Protein (New USDA guidelines).
How many meals are reimbursable:
Two meals and a snack or two snacks and a meal (per day per eligible participant).
What are the reimbursement rates:
Reimbursement rates for meals and/or snacks served to adults in attendance are announced annually by the USDA based on changes in the Consumer Price Index of the preceding year.
Reimbursement for the same meal cannot be claimed under both the CACFP and Title IIIc of the Older Americans Act of 1965.
