Arizona’s Final version of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan was approved by Secretary of Education Betsey DeVos on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.
The final draft of Arizona’s Consolidated State Plan Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) incorporates the wisdom and wishes gleaned from over 20,000 unique pieces of input from thousands of Arizonans, including policymakers, educators, tribal organizations, business leaders and parents. Each comment was individually reviewed and considered to help us develop this final draft, which was submitted to Governor Doug Ducey on January 9, 2017.
ESSA State Plan: Final Draft – Federal Submission (Old Template)

This
second draft document incorporates feedback from parents, teachers, school administrators, education stakeholder groups, business and community leaders, policymakers and members of the public. Accompanying this most recent draft of the State Plan for the first time is a complementary
Implementation Plan designed to provide specific examples as to how the formal Plan would be implemented in districts and schools once it has been finalized. The Implementation Plan document was prepared in direct response to concerns that the State Plan lacked sufficient detail.
We are also providing this red line version of the plan so that stakeholders can easily see where changes were made when comparing the first draft to the second.
Lastly, we hope that this webinar explaining the second draft will be helpful as you review the document and provide your feedback.
The Department’s intention was to make its
initial draft document as broad as possible so that we can continue to focus on state and local control when it comes to our education system. More details about how key ESSA components will be implemented in alignment with the State Plan will be provided in Superintendent Douglas’ annual AZ Kids Can’t Wait! plan, which is currently being updated and will be available later this year.
