EMPOWER PLUS – Acepting Applications for Cohort #2

Empower PLUS+ launched in Arizona last year.  Is accepting applications for Cohort 2.  This is NOT the same as the Empower program, which most of you are already enrolled in.  

Empower PLUS+ is an intense federally funded one-year project which provides training and technical assistance to child care CENTERS wishing to improve practices in the areas of health, nutrition and physical activity.

 Requirements for Eligibility:

  • Must be a child care CENTER – we cannot accommodate group homes and family child care programs at this time.
  • Center must be in MARICOPA or PIMA counties – we cannot accommodate centers in other counties at this time.
  • Center must serve a minimum of 50 children between the ages of birth to age 5 – you cannot be a ‘before and after school’ program only.
  • Center must be committed to quality and be willing to improve their practices and policies related to health, nutrition and physical activity.
  • Center must be committed to complete the project – 5 trainings (weekdays) between September 2014 through May 2015.

Read On Arizona is a partnership of organizations committed to ensuring our children have the language and literacy skills they need to be reading at grade level by third grade. 

In support of these efforts, through a collaborative partnership with myON – a leading provider of digital literacy, setting the trend for personalized reading – all Arizona children ages three and up will have free and unlimited access to thousands of digital books from April through September 2014.  

The books in myON are available to Arizona children and families at home, at school and in community centers. In fact, access is available anywhere, anytime students can access an Internet connection or a device such as an iPad or a Kindle. Offline reading is also supported through free downloadable apps available at iTunes, Google Play or the Kindle Store.

Sign up today and start making a reader this summer, it only takes a few simple steps to access myON books:

  1.  Go online to www.ReadOnArizona.org/myON
  2.  Click on myon.com then select the “Log In Now”button and enter the following information: 
    1. School Name:Read On Arizona, Digital Library (Begin entering the first few letters and then select from the drop-down menu)
    2. User name: read
    3. Password: read
  3.  Click on Sign In, select a book and start reading!

Public School Leadership Alliance for Young Children  

(formerly known as Early Childhood Consortium) 

The PLAY Group is an active group of Arizona Early Childhood Educators representing preschool programs in public school settings. This group meets once a month from September through May to discuss issues related to topics that support quality Early Childhood Education. This meeting affords participants the opportunity to network with other local education agencies, get questions answered from ADE staff as well as provide guidance to systems building in Arizona. Participants in this group include those working in early childhood special education, school based community preschool programs, Head Start, Title I preschool programs and other pre-school programs located on public school campuses.
