The Family Involvement Course
The U.S. Department of Education just announceed the Family Imvolvement Course on the You for Youth website.
You can complete the online Family Involvement course in less than an hour, or about 10 minutes a day for one week. You’ll get a certificate of completion as well as ideas and resources to support stronger relationships with students’ families. Forging strong links can help students overcome challenges that have kept them from active involvement with school staff. As you know, good relationships usually don’t happen by chance. The Family Involvement course includes videos, activities, research and practical tips you can put to use right away.
The Family Engagement for High School Success Toolkit:
Planning and implementing an initiative to support the pathway to graduation for at-risk students
Recognizing the role that family engagement plays as part of a comprehensive strategy to keep teens in school and ensure that they graduate prepared for the future, AT&T, United Way Worldwide (UWW), and Harvard Family Research Project (HFRP) created a toolkit that will guide the development and implementation of strategies that engage families in helping at-risk high school students get back on track.
The Family Engagement for High School Success Toolkit will help local United Way chapters, nonprofits, schools, and other community organizations:
- Identify how to spot ninth graders who are at risk of dropping out, considering factors such as attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
- Enlist and enroll the right partners and work creatively to reach parents of at-risk kids.
- Work with parents, schools, and partners to apply research-based strategies and promising practices to get at-risk students back on track to graduate from high school.
