Keynote speaker Jim Brazell is a Texas technology forecaster, strategist, and public speaker focused on innovation and transformation. For two decades, Jim has been ahead of the curve in predicting technology, market, industry, and education trends. Today, he is a member of the Thornburg Center for Professional Development. Clients for his forecasting and professional development work include Global 100 companies, state governments, educational institutions, and nonprofits.

Designing Comprehensive Evaluation Systems: Summit III

Please join the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) from April 29 – April 30, 2012 for Designing Comprehensive Evaluation Systems Summit III: Using Formative and Summative Evaluation Data in a Comprehensive System to Improve Teaching and Learning.

Participants will have the opportunity to see and hear about Arizona school and LEA models of Educator Evaluation Systems.

Keynote Speaker: Charlotte Danielson

Purpose of Summit III:

  • To review the Arizona Framework for Measuring Educator Effectiveness: Teacher Performance Measures;
  • To identify the conditions for effective use of classroom observations;
  • To examine various models of multiple measures, weighting and use of data to inform LEA plans, both within and outside of Arizona;
  • To continue to develop an action plan for the design and implementation of an LEA educator evaluation system; and
  • To identify resources, tools and assistance available to LEAs.

Participants:

LEA teams responsible for the design and implementation of the district evaluation system made up of district, school and teacher leaders, such as:

  • Superintendents & Principals
  • School Board Members
  • HR Directors
  • Assessment and/or Curriculum Directors
  • Department or Grade Level Chairs
  • Content Specialists
  • Association Leaders

Summit Format:

Participants will hear national experts provide current information, research and resources on approaches to measuring educator effectiveness. LEA teams will have the opportunity to reflect on and discuss the information provided and develop plans in working sessions. Experts will be available for questions, consultation and guidance during team working sessions. A workbook will be provided for each session to record key ideas, reflections, discussions, decisions and next steps determined in working sessions.

Arizona was recently awarded $25 million through the U.S. Department of Education’s Race to the Top Phase 3 (RTTT) grant program to advance Arizona’s education reform efforts. Please join the ADE, in collaboration with the Governor’s Office of Education Innovation and the Arizona Association of County School Superintendents for a general informational webinar regarding Arizona’s new Race to the Top grant award. Information shared will include a description of major grant elements and partnerships, where to find ongoing information on Arizona’s Race to the Top project, and next steps for the state and for LEAs as we move toward implementation.
