2018 Summer Arts Education Institute- Keynote “Cultivating Creativity In The Classroom” by Richard Maxwell

Only 1 week left to register for ADE’s first annual Summer Institute for K-12 Arts Educators and Teaching Artists!

Join us on July 20th to experience our Keynote Speaker Richard Maxwell and share in his insight on cultivating creativity in the classroom! Richard will speak to his experience with creating the Arcadia CMAS Program, and how a “fully open creative platform” might mean with regard to what students experience, what teachers require to facilitate, and how the Creative Process can be furthered in the classroom.

Richard will also be teaching the Music Master Class!

2018 Summer Arts Education Institute- Master Class Instructor Dustin Loehr

We are VERY excited to announce that ADE’s Director of Arts Education and Title IV-A will be teaching the Theatre Master Class for the K-12 Arts Summer Institute! Loehr celebrates a year with ADE, previously serving as the Title I Arts Education Specialist, and now overseeing the newly created interdisciplinary Title IV-A Program: Arts Education, Gifted and Advanced Learning, College & Career Readiness, and the Student Support & Academic Enrichment Grants (Title IV-A). Loehr has a background in teaching artistry, arts administration, and performance art. His workshop will focus on building community through ensemble creation.

2018 Summer Arts Education Institute- Master Class Instructor Hodgie Jo

Hodgie Jo has been in the arts and entertainment industry for over 25 years. He has worked from coast to coast and internationally, choreographing, performing and producing numerous events with various celebrities and organizations. Hodgie is the Dance Performing Director at Alice Cooper’s The Rock teen center, Choreographer for the Phoenix Boys Choir and Dance Instructor at Bricks Studio. He is deeply committed to improving lives through the arts.

Hodgie will be leading our Dance Master Class, so be sure to bring clothes to MOVE in!

2018 Summer Arts Education Institute- Master Class Instructor Julie Peters

ADE is excited to partner with AAEA President Julie Peters! 

When asked about what she LOVES about Arts Education Ms. Peter’s responded, “I just completed my 21st year as an art educator and I look forward to the teaching years ahead of me. Along the way, I have grown as an artist and as an educator. I have worked diligently to improve my teaching while increasing my range of artistic skills. I remember making a paper mache fish with a button eye when I was in third grade. I truly believe that is the point when my passion for art first began.”

Be sure to Register for our Summer Institute for K-12 Arts Educators and Teaching Artists! Julie will be sharing her original unit on Social Issues. This project will allow Arts Educators to experience a strategy designed to  help students understand how artist’s use their visual voice to send their messages to their communities and the world!

ATTN MUSIC EDUCATORS!

The Tucson Jazz Music Foundation is interested in hosting a workshop and/or series of workshops/training sessions to inspire, and provide direction for music teachers on how to create a curriculum/lessons plans to teach jazz music to young children ages Pre-K-5. Workshop instructor will be Natalie Wilson, an award-winning music educator (vocal, general music, jazz specialty), from Grass Valley Elementary School, Camas, Washington. She has given workshops on this topic at the JEN conferences (Jazz Education Network), and is an excellent presenter.

Natalie is available in AUGUST, and also October 12-15. We need your input so we can select the best dates to schedule the workshop(s) to accommodate the most interested. New graduates welcome.

Have a GREAT Summer!!

Dear Arts Educators, Teaching Artists, Administrators, and ALL Arts Education Stakeholders:

It has been my pleasure to spend the 2017-18 school year with you as your ADE Arts Education representative! Together we have listened, grown, celebrated, and explored the work we collectively endeavor to elevate and expand. Your commitment to your students and communities is inspiring, I am so excited to build upon this year’s discoveries. As I transition into my new role as ADE’s Director of Arts Education & Title IV-A, I look forward to building an interdisciplinary team that can support your work. Our increased capacity will allow us more opportunity to partner, share, and learn alongside you, and the increased resources provided through Title IV-A allows for new and emerging collaborations! I have so enjoyed attending your school performances, showcasing your students’ creations, and sharing resources for your classrooms, leadership, and school communities. Take time to rest and re-charge this summer break. Reflect on your teaching artistry and what you might choose to tackle in the upcoming year. As you begin planning, remember that the Office of Arts Education and the Title IV-A Team are here to assist you. 

Please mark your calendars now for the first annual “Summer Institute for K-12 Arts Educators & Teaching Artists”! Our District, school, and organizational leadership are invited to join us for the “Arts Education Leadership Summit” immediately following the Summer institute event. This event is FREE, lunch and Certificates of Completion will be provided. Registration information will be sent soon.

 AzDEO is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Dance Educator Retreat, offering one day of movement and discussion classes specifically designed for teachers in any setting. Followed by our Annual Meeting where you will:

Online Summer Classes in the Arts- for Insructors

Are you looking for self-paced professional development in the arts? Are you wondering if there’s a way to get professional development hours/credits in the comfort of your home or without having to leave your summer beach get-away? The State Education Agency Directors of Arts Education (SEADAE) has a solution for you! Check out the library of arts courses from SEADAE hosted by Pepper! These courses are designed to help you understand and apply the National Core Arts Standards in your classroom. Go here for more information on the specific courses. Go here to enroll in and pay for the SEADAE library. The one-time payment gives you access to all courses for one year. The library currently contains four courses, with a fifth course in animation anticipated for fall 2018. Turn a summer’s day into PD hours/credits through these relevant, timely courses from SEADAE and PCG.

Professional Learning Center for Arts Educators!

It’s nearing that time where you might be looking for PD for yourself or your Arts Instructors. I am proud to share The Professional Learning Center offered by Pepper and the State Education Agency Directors of Arts Education (SEADAE)! Courses are always being added, and right now we are featuring classes on understanding the National Core Arts Standards (which Arizona’s Arts Education Standards are built upon), understanding artistic literacy, and exploring our newly recognized artistic discipline, media arts.

I hope you enjoy this low cost PD option for yourself, your teachers, and even your administrators and teacher evaporators.
