Arts Integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Through Arts integration, students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.
Arts programs can help schools achieve the goals of Title I by facilitating student engagement and learning, strengthening parent involvement, and improving school climate and schoolwide behavior. This site provides resources for school leaders who wish to embrace arts programming among their strategies for achieving Title I goals. It is intended, in particular, for schools with schoolwide Title I programs, and includes tools for planning, implementing, and evaluating arts-based strategies in alignment with state and federal Title I regulations.

Fundamentals of the Arts Integration & STEAM Approach
Arts Integration and STEAM are approaches to learning. They are not curriculum, nor are these a set of strategies. Instead, these are research-based shifts which embed both the art and the science of teaching and learning. Within these approaches are four cornerstones which are key to building, using and sustaining any arts integration or STEAM effort.
Inspired by exciting, ongoing research into connections between brain development and music, Tucson’s Opening Minds through the Arts (OMA) is a leader in a national movement to integrate arts education with core curriculum. Using instrumental music, opera, dance, theatre, and visual arts to help teach reading, writing, math, and science to children in Kindergarten through 8th grade, Opening Minds through the Arts has shown statistically significant academic growth for students participating in this richly rewarding Arts integration program.
