Social Studies Standards Revision August – October Updates

On August 1, the Social Studies Standards Working Group convened a small group of K-3 teachers to continue the process of revising the Arizona Social Studies Standards. A total of 4 educators participated representing 3 districts and 1 institute of higher education. Invitees represented Maricopa County. The purpose of the meeting was to clarify theme and content for the K-2 grade band due to the fact there were no K-2 teachers at the July 19th meeting and that work needed to be complete so the committee could move on at the next meeting.

On September 12, the Social Studies Standards Working group convened to continue the process of revising the Arizona Social Studies Standards. A total of 50 educators were invited representing 5 institutes of higher education and 43 districts/schools, including 6 charters schools. A total of 26 educators participated representing 4 institutes of higher education, 20 districts/schools and 3 charter schools. Invitees represented 9 Arizona Counties: Apache, Maricopa, Mohave, Pima, Pinal, Pima, Santa Cruz, Yavapai, and Yuma

A total of 30 educators participated representing 4 institutes of higher education, 17 districts/schools and 3 charter schools. Invitees represented 10 Arizona Counties: Apache, Maricopa, Mohave, Navajo, Pima, Pinal, Pima, Santa Cruz, Yavapai, and Yuma

On October 30, the Social Studies Standards Working group convened to continue the process of revising the Arizona Social Studies Standards. A total of 45 educators were invited. Twenty-five educators attended the meeting representing 3 institutions of higher learning, 22 districts/schools including 1 charter. Invitees represented 8 Arizona Counties: Apache, Cochise, Maricopa, Mohave Pima, Pinal, Yavapai, and Yuma.

Social Studies Standards Revision July Update

On July 17, the Social Studies Standards Working group convened to continue the process of revising the Arizona Social Studies Standards. A total of 46 educators were invited representing 4 institutes of higher education and 23 districts/schools, including 6 charter schools. A total of 24 educators participated representing 16 districts/schools and 4 charter schools. Invitees represented 8 Arizona Counties: Coconino, Maricopa, Mohave, Navajo, Pima, Pinal, Yavapai, and Yuma.

On July 19, the Social Studies Standards Working group convened to continue the process of revising the Arizona Social Studies Standards. A total of 42 educators were invited representing 4 institutes of higher education and 26 districts/schools, including 4 charter schools. A total of 22 educators participated representing 15 districts/schools and 2 charter schools. Invitees represented 7 Arizona Counties: Coconino, Maricopa, Mohave, Navajo, Pima, Pinal and Yavapai.

On March 3, the Social Studies Standards Revision Working Group convened to continue the process of revising Arizona’s Social Studies Standards. A total of 26 Arizona educators participated, representing 2 institutes of higher education, 23 districts/schools, including 4 charter schools. Participants represented 6 Arizona counties: Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Cochise, Coconino, and Apache.

Social Studies Standards Revision Updates

On January 31, the Social Studies Standards Revision Working Group convened to begin the process of revising Arizona’s Social Studies Standards. A total of 34 educators attended, representing 3 institutes of higher education, 28 districts/schools, and 1 charter school. Participants represented 8 Arizona counties: Maricopa, Pima, Mohave, Yavapai, Pinal, Apache, Cochise, and Yuma.

Parent and Community Member Participation in Standards Working Group

Parents and Community Members who wish to participate in standards working groups should submit an online application. This application is for individuals who do not currently work within the K-12 school system or within institutes of higher education. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the development and revision process. The ADE is currently accepting applications to participate in science and social studies working groups.

Parent and Community Member Volunteer Working Group Application Upon review of applications, participants who meet the desired qualifications may be selected for working groups.
