General Information

Arizona’s Thirteenth Annual Transition Conference, “I”s Focused on the Future: Invested, Involved, and Independent, is a collaborative, cross-stakeholder professional development event aimed at providing meaningful and pertinent information needed in the transition planning process for youth and young adults with disabilities. This annual conference provides a dynamic array of national speakers, state level experts, and also includes participation of youth, young adults, and family members. Session content is structured around three topical strands: (1) strategies for enhancing youth success, (2) family involvement, and (3) interagency/ and community collaboration.

ADE/ESS is pleased to welcome Brad Cohen as this year’s opening keynote speaker! Mr. Cohen is a noted motivational speaker, teacher, author who has Tourette syndrome. He has been featured on the Oprah Show, People magazine, CNN, The New York Times, and Inside Edition and is the author of Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had. CBS featured Mr. Cohen’s life in a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Front of the Class, in December 2008. His story of personal challenge and unwavering determination proves that anyone can make a dream come true.

2013 Program Brochure

Conference Schedule and Session Description

The conference schedule has been posted on the Schedule page.

Continuing our efforts to “go green” for the conference this year, ADE will not be providing paper copies of handouts for most sessions. The conference Program Brochure, Program at a Glance, and presentation materials can be found at the 2013 Transition Conference website.

Participants will be given a copy of the Program Brochure (which includes the Program at a Glance) at onsite registration (printing this document is unnecessary). After reviewing the Program Brochure, you will need to either print the handouts for sessions you are planning on attending or take notes within fillable PDF documents with your laptop, tablet, or mobile device. NOTE: All PowerPoint handouts will be converted to fillable PDF documents prior to the first day of the conference. In order to access handouts, select the “Monday,” “Tuesday,” and “Wednesday” links, click on the title of the session, then click on the link for each handout. If you do not find a handout for a session, be aware that some of our presenters will be bringing their materials and others will not have any handouts. A CD containing presentation materials will be located in participant conference bags provided at onsite registration. Paper copies of handouts from the conference CD or the ADE/ESS Secondary Transition website can be printed at the Talking Stick Resort business center for a fee.

ADA Accommodation Entrance

Alternate access to the hotel and conference area is an option for individuals who require ADA accommodations related to the main entrance of the Talking Stick Resort. The main entrance to the hotel and conference area passes through the casino portion of the hotel and limited exposure to smoke and flashing lights is possible. Please be aware that the alternate entrance: (1) is a significantly longer distance than the main entrance; (2) requires an escort by a conference volunteer since it passes through secure areas; and (3) is only available at limited and pre-designated times. In order to request an ADA accommodation entrance, you must be a registered participant. Note: attendees can use the alternate access to register/attend the conference, but if required, an alternate site can be provided for hotel check-in for attendees who will be staying at the hotel. Please register by September 23, 2013, at the following link: http://tinyurl.com/ooyxw43.

Purchase Orders for Hotel Guests

If you are staying overnight at the Talking Stick Resort and plan on paying by purchase order (PO), please remember that POs will NOT be accepted onsite. If you do not make arrangements by the deadline, you will need to pay for your overnight stay through another method.
