The School Safety Program is a state-funded program that places School Resource Officers (SRO's) and/or Juvenile Probation Officers (JPO's) in selected schools to promote a safe environment. The SRO's and JPO's provide Law Related Education (LRE) through existing curriculum and encourage positive interaction between students and law enforcement.
The goal of LRE is to prepare students for responsible citizenship by promoting the development of those characteristics that lead to healthy behavior. LRE is the instruction about rules, laws and the legal system which actively involves the students towards its goal.
