Curriculum mapping can be a daunting task for any district, but in small districts it is often relegated to a central-office or administrator function. This top-down approach may not result in the teacher buy-in known to be critical to the development of an effective, relevant curriculum map that teachers will actually use. Choosing to forego expensive software programs and overly-complicated process, we used a design-team model to create our map and to present this change to our teachers. By approaching the task with a “For-Teachers-By-Teachers” concept, we have strengthened our professional learning community.
