SDER Correction Deadline Nears

Teacher Experience Index (TEI) reports are available for FY13 at http://www.ade.az.gov/sder/ReportGenerationPublic.asp. If you believe your district’s TEI is not accurate due to incomplete or inaccurate certified employee data in your School District Employee Report (SDER), please contact your account analyst and request that a window be opened for you to revise your SDER data. Prior to emailing your request, please identify data to be modified and be prepared to make revisions.

All requests must be made prior to 5:00 p.m. on April 5. All revisions must be completed by noon on April 8. For those districts who modify their data between now and April 8, new TEI reports will be generated no later than April 15.

JTEDs Should Use Year-End Code “C” to Identify Completers

Integrity was modified for FY 2013 to preclude Joint Technical Education Districts (JTEDs) from reporting a student as having graduated from a JTED. A JTED cannot report a student’s year-end status using code “G” as this causes the graduation rate information that ADE reports to NCES (U.S. Department of Education EDFacts submissions) to be inaccurate.

However, in reviewing the year-end codes, there was no existing year-end code that applied to JTED students. To resolve this issue, ADE’s Research and Evaluation Division has modified the description of year-end code “C” to include JTED completers. The complete description of the code can be found on Pages 6-7 of the Graduation Rate Technical Manual.

An Introduction to Understanding SAIS Reports

We are pleased to announce that we have created an introductory level presentation on SAIS Reports and have posted it to our web site. You can view the presentation by going to our Business Rule Documents and Presentations page. It can be found within the “Presentations” section under Fiscal Year 2013. The presentation is titled “Understanding Your SAIS Reports – An Introduction.”

Please check back here over the next couple of weeks for the next presentation that will cover more advanced tips on how to use the reports. These presentations are designed to provide an overview of the student details reports (SDDI) and your Student Counts reports as well as to explain the purpose of the reports, how to understand them, and how to reconcile them.

K-3 Reading Plan Guidance Available

A.R.S. §15-211, which was approved by the Arizona Legislature this spring, provides for state funding of a reading program to improve the reading proficiency of District and Charter School students in grades Kindergarten through Third Grade. To receive these additional funds, each School District and Charter School must submit to the State Board of Education an annual plan for improving the reading proficiency of their K–3 students. These plans must be submitted on or before October 1st.

The State Board of Education has approved templates for the submission of LEA and school-level reading plans. Additionally, guidance documents have been developed to assist school personnel in developing and submitting these plans. The templates and guidance can be found at http://www.azed.gov/mowr/k3literacyplans/ .

The new K-3 Reading Weight is 0.040 and will provide approximately $132 per student count in grades K-3.
