FAQ for ALEAT monitoring process

1. Where do I find the templates for the Implementation Action Plan you want us to upload to ALEAT?

There is no ADE template supplied for this. You are asked to show us the plan you use to assure that the required ECAP attributes are being implemented. This might be in the form of an action plan you use indicating who, what, where, when of your implementation across grade levels; it could be a yearly calendar of how you manage the implementation process. Examples of each are on the ADE Education and Career Action Plan website at www.azed.gov/ecap.

2. Why do you need to see an ECAP from a graduate of the Class of 2013? Is there a special format for this?

The State Board of Education determined that the formatting of the Education and Career Action Plan should be left to local determination. The document should reflect the academic and career development plan of the student and should be monitored each year to capture changing interests and academic progress, tied to career pathways.

The ECAP should reflect: high school academic plan, career interest, postsecondary plan and should capture participation in extracurricular/community involvement. Submit the redacted student plan which reflects this. Remember; never send the plan with personal identifying student information.

3. Do ECAP plans need to include a parent signature?

The ECAP process is intended to improve communication between the school, the student, and the parent as a collaborative process. You should include in your implementation plan the outreach strategies you use to involve parents in the yearly process, beginning with registration into high school. These might include the use of print or electronic communications; notated phone contacts; designated parent nights; parent-student-school conferences; parent signatures or initials on ECAPs. These are only examples and are not an exhaustive list. It is important to demonstrate that you have made a significant effort to involve parents in the planning process.

4. When you say you want a redacted ECAP for a student in the Class of 2013 is that by cohort year or graduation year? Do I only need to have plans in place for the Class of 2013?

The plan you upload into the ALEAT system needs to be for a Class of 2013 graduating senior. However, schools have had 4 years to implement a sequential process for all grade levels, beginning as students register for grade 9. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect students in grades 9-11 have been involved in a sequential planning process.

5. I am not prepared for the Class of 2013 so what do I need to do? I need technical assistance!

ADE is scheduling technical assistance sessions for those in most need of further help with implementation efforts.

Dates will be posted in the ECAP Corner as they are finalized. Check back often.
