Student-Teacher-Course Connection – Get Started Today

Did you know all districts and charter schools (except for-profit charter schools) must submit and certify Student-Teacher-Course (STC) Connection files three times a year? The STC Connection program creates visibility and transparency into the educational progress of students and the people who inspire them. The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) is helping districts and charters to successfully complete this program to meet federally-mandated data requirements.

Your district or charter can maintain existing local course names and course codes by linking to a common statewide course framework. Once this mapping process is complete, you can finish the Student-Teacher-Course Connection within your existing Student Information System (SIS), and send that data to ADE.

Getting started

There are two ways to get started, through the online tool provided by ADE (CourseWalk) or through your student information system (SIS). Contact your SIS vendor to see if this is an option for you. Otherwise, contact ADE to obtain a username and password for CourseWalk. Either way, we are here to assist you. We’ve created a special website that contains training videos, recorded webinars, templates and other resources.

Next, after your district courses are mapped, work with your SIS vendor to understand changes that accommodate the Student-Teacher-Course Connection program. Then schedule your 2012-2013 school year using the required data.

What’s next?

Submit Student-Teacher-Course Connection data to ADE coinciding with your 40th day in October / November. Our goal is to have all district and charter submissions and errors completed by early December 2012. You will perform two more Student-Teacher-Course Connection data submissions during the school year on the 100th day and at the end of the school year.

We want to make this transition as smooth as possible. Our dedicated support team is available to answer your questions during business hours at 602.542.7378 Option 2, or at stconnection@azed.gov.
