The Arizona Department of Education has invited a cadre of arts educators from across the state to help in developing assessment tools, processes and practices to help us better know how Arizona students are meeting the 2006 Arizona Academic Standards in the Arts.
Over the past year, the Arts Assessment Committee, comprised of art, dance, music and theatre teachers, has developed end of course expectations charts based on the Arizona Arts Standards. This chart shows the “highlights” of what we expect students to know and be able to do at the end of each year of study in high school. It does not encompass all the material you would cover each year, but should highlight essential skills, concepts and knowledge needed to move on to the next level of study.
These charts will help guide the creation of quality assessment items and tools which Arizona teachers could use to document students’ progress in these key areas of arts learning.
Please take a moment to review the chart or charts for your arts discipline and tell us what you think using the survey tools below. Your input is vital so we create end of course expectations that are usable for arts educators throughout the state. Survey responses will be accepted through May 1, 2010. Thank you!
