These documents were designed for use by district and site-level administrators to achieve deeper and wider ECAP implementation. The Toolkit provides in-depth information on the ECAP process, how to get started in developing and implementing a quality ECAP process, and specific strategies for achieving whole-school buy-in, engaging families, and collaborating with community and business partners. Best practices from leading research on individual learning plans and Arizona ECAP exemplar schools can be found throughout the Toolkit. Additionally, the toolkit includes links to resources, templates, research, and helpful websites. We will continually update the Toolkit to include the latest research and innovative practices that schools from around the state are using to prepare their students for college, career, and life!
Districts and schools around the state of Arizona are implementing the ECAP process in innovative and impactful ways. Using data on graduation rates and drop-out rates, the Arizona Department of Education identified schools that have made significant improvements since the 2008 State Board Rule requiring ECAP implementation. School’s ECAP implementation plan/calendar and a redacted copy of a student plan were reviewed to determine which schools had developed quality ECAP processes for their students. The schools listed below have “bought-in” to the value of a comprehensive ECAP process and are making meaningful changes in student outcomes!

In the Fall of 2013 and 2014, West Ed Comprehensive Center was contracted to assist the Arizona Department of Education in determining the implementation level of the Education and Career Action Plan Process (ECAP) in schools serving grades 9-12. Schools were required by the State Board of Education to have this process in place for the graduating class of 2013. A memorandum was sent to district and charter school principals asking them to see that one survey was completed per high school site. The electronic survey results were then compiled into summary reports by WestEd and reviewed by ADE. The results of these surveys have provided guidance to ADE in our efforts to assist schools in refining their ECAP process and student ECAP plan.
