COVID-19: Funding for Technology

Grants That Can be Used for Technology 

The following information has been compiled by the Arizona Department of Education to support the purchase of technology during this time period of distance learning. Each grant and program come with their own stipulations. A contact for each grant and program has been provided for your convenience, and we encourage LEAs to work directly with the contacts listed below to determine if these funds can be leveraged. 

 

Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund

  • This funding source can be used to purchase technology

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA B Consolidated)

  • This funding source may be used to purchase technology for eligible students
  • Technology purchases must be directly related to an individual child’s needs based on their Individual Education Program (IEP)
  • Assistive Technology (as defined by §§300.105) must be an IEP consideration
  • Each public agency must ensure that assistive technology devices or assistive technology services, or both, as those terms are defined in §§300.5 and 300.6, respectively, are made available to a child with a disability if required as a part of the child’s
  • On a case-by-case basis, the use of school-purchased assistive technology devices in a child’s home or other settings is required if the child’s IEP Team determines that the child needs access to those devices to receive FAPE.
  • Must not be a “proportionate” purchase of technology for students with disabilities for technology purchased for general education purposes.
  • Voluntary IDEA B/Coordinated Early Intervention Services (CEIS) funds MAY NOT be used to support the purchase or implementation of core (universal) activities or technology designed to provide high-quality instruction to all students in a grade, school, or district.

  • Must be used for K-3 reading and online activities that support literacy

  • This funding source can be used to purchase technology 
  • Must be used for K-3 reading and online activities that support literacy

McKinney-Vento 

  • This funding source can be used to purchase technology for qualifying students

Title I-C (Migrant) 

  • This funding source can be used to support technology expenditures for qualifying students

Title I-A – Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged 

  • This funding source can be used to purchase technology

Title II-A – Effective Teachers and Leaders 

  • These funds could be used to purchase technology  
  • Must be used for teachers/administrators who are training and/or providing professional development to teachers and administrators

Rural Low Income Schools (RLIS) 

  • This funding source can be used to purchase technology

Title I-D – Prevention and Intervention Programs for Children and Youth who are Neglected, Delinquent, or At-Risk 

  • This funding source can be used to purchase technology

Title IV-A -Student Support and Academic Enrichment 

  • This funding Source can be used to purchase technology

Title III Funds
