Hello, my name is Gustavo Chavez, and I am proud to be attending Rice University in Houston, Texas, next fall. The best part? My freshman year is only going to cost my family 68 dollars per month!

Rice was very generous with its financial aid, and I am excited to attend because it has a good reputation as a STEM-focused elite university. I was also considering Washington University in St. Louis, but I decided on Rice because of its residential college system, which will be better for building a strong network of friends.

Talking about networks, I would have never been in this position today without the network of amazing people and organizations I have around me in Phoenix. I want to thank Brophy College Prep for giving me the opportunity to attend and meet amazing teachers that inspired me; I also want to thank Senior Boot Camp from the Be A Leader Foundation for helping me with essays, because they were an essential part of the journey.

I can't wait to see what awaits in Houston!
