Discipline Data Collection

ESS Discipline Data Collection (DDC) is an initiative to improve the collection, use, and reporting of safety and discipline incident data for use in IDEA data reporting. Discipline data is extracted to pre-populate data within the SEDD application (coming soon) for PEAs to validate prior to submission.

Outside of special education discipline reporting, there is currently no other unit that uses discipline data for reporting purposes. This means that the only information that is required to be submitted into ESS DDC are discipline incidents for students with disabilities. Specifically, incidents which lead to the removal of the child from the educational environment (suspension, expulsion, etc.)

This application is not used to support general education discipline data. Any questions related to that information should be forwarded to the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) as they primarily oversee that data collection. The application will no longer allow non-special education information to be submitted.

Important Information

The Important Dates website outlines the various deadlines for ESS Data Management data collections.

XML Schema - The XML Schema for FY23 submissions has been updated. Any PEAs choosing to upload to the Discipline Data Application via XML will need to supply this new schema to their SIS vendor to update. Any attempts to upload via XML without updating to this new schema will not be successful.

Updated! - Discipline Data Manual - In this manual, you will find documentation of the entire process of Discipline Data Collection. Below are the topics located in the manual (you may click any link to direct you to that page in the manual):
