Arizona Professional Teaching Standards

The Arizona Professional Teaching Standards establish expectations for effective teaching practice and serve as a framework for educator preparation, professional growth, and teaching effectiveness throughout the state. The standards are designed to support high-quality instruction and promote student learning by identifying the knowledge, skills, and professional responsibilities expected of Arizona educators.

Proposed Revisions Available for Public Review and Comment

The Arizona Department of Education is seeking public feedback on proposed revisions to the Arizona Professional Teaching Standards.

In December 2025, the Arizona State Board of Education voted to open Board rule to review and revise the standards for the removal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) language. Following that action, a stakeholder workgroup reviewed the existing standards and developed recommendations for revisions.

The Arizona Department of Education invite educators, educator preparation program representatives, school leaders, education partners, and members of the public to review the proposed revisions and provide feedback during the public comment period.
