Science Standards Revision – November 6 Update

On November 6, the Science Standards Revision Working Group continued their work in revising Arizona’s Science Standards and preparing the draft for public comment. A total of 32 Arizona educators participated, representing 3 institutes of higher education and 31 districts/schools, including 2 charter schools. Participants were from 9 Arizona counties: Apache, Coconino, Graham, Maricopa, Navajo, Pima, Pinal, Yavapai, and Yuma. The next step will be to open the public review process at the December 4th State Board of Education meeting. The draft and survey will be opened following the State Board meeting, and will remain available through January 19th, 2018. We encourage all science educators, parents, students, and community members to review the draft and provide feedback during this upcoming public comments period.

Science Standards Revision – October 18 Update
On October 18, the Science Standards Revision Working Group continued their work in revising Arizona’s Science Standards. A total of 28 Arizona educators participated, representing 2 institutes of higher education and 26 districts/schools, including 2 charter schools. Participants were from 8 Arizona counties: Apache, Coconino, Graham, Maricopa, Navajo, Pima, Yavapai, and Yuma.

Science Standards Revision – October 11 Update

Science Standards Revision – October 11 Update

On October 11, a Parent and Community Focus Group convened to provide feedback on the development of the Science Standards. Thirteen applicants were invited and 6 attended; participants were from 2 Arizona counties: Maricopa and Pima. The feedback from this focus group will be used to inform decisions made by the Science Standards Working Groups later this month as they continue the development of the Science Standards.

We are still accepting applications from K-12 educators, post-secondary science content and science education researchers/instructors and parents and community members to serve on the working groups. New working group members are selected to participate throughout the entire revision process.

Science Standards Revision – October 10 Update

On October 2 and 10, a small Science Standards Revision Working Group convened to focus on the high school science standards. The work from this small group will be reviewed by the parent and community focus group and by the full committee later this month. A total of 8 Arizona educators participated, representing 8 districts. Participants were from 2 Arizona counties: Maricopa and Yuma.

We are still accepting applications from K-12 educators, post-secondary science content and science education researchers/instructors and parents and community members to serve on the working groups. New working group members are selected to participate throughout the entire revision process.

On September 6, the Science Standards Revision Working Group made great progress in revising Arizona’s Science Standards. A total of 27 Arizona educators participated, representing 2 institutes of higher education, 24 districts/schools, including 2 charter schools and 1 private school. Participants were from 7 Arizona counties: Apache, Graham, Maricopa, Navajo, Pima, Pinal, and Yuma.

Presidential Awards Nominations

Do you know an outstanding 7th-12th grade mathematics or science teacher? If so, please consider nominating that teacher for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).The Presidential Awards are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science (including computer science), and recipients of the award receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation. Anyone may nominate a teacher to apply for this exciting opportunity. Nominations are accepted until April 1, 2017. For more information or to nominate someone, visit the PAEMST website.

The Science Standards Revision Working Group convened to continue the process of revising Arizona’s Science Standards

On February 22, the Science Standards Revision Working Group convened to continue the process of revising Arizona’s Science Standards. A total of 23 Arizona educators participated, representing 2 institutes of higher education, 21 districts/schools, including 2 charter schools. Participants represented 3 Arizona counties: Maricopa, Pima, and Apache.

Science Standards Revision Updates

On January 23, the Science Standards Revision Working Group convened to begin the process of revising Arizona’s Science Standards. A total of 28 Arizona educators braved inclement weather and were able to attend and participate, representing 2 institutes of higher education, 22 districts/schools, and 3 charter schools. Participants represented 7 Arizona counties: Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Yuma, Cochise, Yavapai, and Navajo.
