MSP Mini Grant Applications now open!



The Arizona Department of Education is pleased to announce the release of the SY2018 Arizona Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP) Mini Grant Application. All applicant LEAs must attend one grant-writing webinar. The LEA’s project lead and fiscal officer are both encouraged to attend, as are additional partners (evaluators, higher education, etc.) Applications are due March 7, 2018.

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Presidential Awards for Excellence in mathematics and Science TeachingThe Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science (including computer science). Nominations and applications are now open for mathematics and science teacher grades K-6. To submit a nomination, you only need the teacher’s contact information. Nominations close April 1st and application are due by May 1st. If you know more than one teacher deserving this award, you may submit more than one nomination. Teachers may also initiate the application process themselves at www.paemst.org.

The Science and Social Studies Standards Drafts are under internal review.

The Science and Social Studies Standards Drafts will not be made public at the December 4, 2017 State Board of Education meeting as previously anticipated. The drafts are currently being vetted and under agency review. Read the official communication from ADE.

Science Standards Revision – November 6 Update

Science Standards Revision – November 6 Update

On November 6, the Science Standards Revision Working Group continued their work in revising Arizona’s Science Standards and preparing the draft for public comment. A total of 32 Arizona educators participated, representing 3 institutes of higher education and 31 districts/schools, including 2 charter schools. Participants were from 9 Arizona counties: Apache, Coconino, Graham, Maricopa, Navajo, Pima, Pinal, Yavapai, and Yuma. The next step will be to open the public review process at the December 4th State Board of Education meeting. The draft and survey will be opened following the State Board meeting, and will remain available through January 19th, 2018. We encourage all science educators, parents, students, and community members to review the draft and provide feedback during this upcoming public comments period.

Students are highly motivated by STEM challenges!

This natural engagement activates authentic curiosity and desire to apply reading and writing skills purposefully. In this workshop we will enhance your STEM instruction using quality children’s literature to promote higher level thinking/questioning, problem solving, reading, writing and vocabulary development. We will use the 5E instructional model and science and engineering practices as a strategy to present STEM concepts while building literacy. Participants will receive a copy of NSTA’s book, Picture-Perfect Science Grades 3-6.
