MSP Mini Grant Applications now open!



The Arizona Department of Education is pleased to announce the release of the SY2018 Arizona Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP) Mini Grant Application. All applicant LEAs must attend one grant-writing webinar. The LEA’s project lead and fiscal officer are both encouraged to attend, as are additional partners (evaluators, higher education, etc.) Applications are due March 7, 2018.

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Presidential Awards for Excellence in mathematics and Science TeachingThe Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science (including computer science). Nominations and applications are now open for mathematics and science teacher grades K-6. To submit a nomination, you only need the teacher’s contact information. Nominations close April 1st and application are due by May 1st. If you know more than one teacher deserving this award, you may submit more than one nomination. Teachers may also initiate the application process themselves at www.paemst.org.

Join us for a day focused on creating and experiencing quality mathematical tasks from grades 4 through 8. Participants will learn what makes a quality mathematical task, how to determine the cognitive demand of the task, and how to implement the task at the rigor of the standards. Arizona Mathematics Standards and the Standards for Mathematical Practice will be a focus for all mathematical experiences.

Presidential Awards Nominations

Do you know an outstanding 7th-12th grade mathematics or science teacher? If so, please consider nominating that teacher for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).The Presidential Awards are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science (including computer science), and recipients of the award receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation. Anyone may nominate a teacher to apply for this exciting opportunity. Nominations are accepted until April 1, 2017. For more information or to nominate someone, visit the PAEMST website.

NEW AzMERIT Sample TESTS are available.

The AzMERIT Sample Tests are a valuable resource for students and families, as well as district and school administrators and educators. The purpose of the Sample Tests is to allow various users to become familiar with the AzMERIT Computer-Based Testing (CBT) system and the different item types used on the AzMERIT assessment. It is important that students who will take the CBT AzMERIT test have an opportunity to take a CBT Sample Test prior to testing so they may become familiar with the types of questions they will encounter and the various tools available to use throughout the tests.
