The approval activities and oversight of the Arizona Department of Education for approved private day schools does not relieve school districts of their responsibility to monitor individual students enrolled in these programs. Approval by the Arizona Department of Education does not make the Department a guarantor or insurer for services or programs provided to individual students.

Empowerment Scholarship icon More Information on Empowerment Scholarship
Residential and Institutional Vouchers are different from Empowerment Scholarships, which are not handled within Exceptional Student Services. Empowerment Scholarships are funded from an account established to provide an education for qualified students, and must include reading, grammar, mathematics, social studies, and science. For more information about these scholarships, please visit the Empowerment Scholarship website.
Secure Care is the education students receive in schools and instructional programs in juvenile detention centers, The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, county jails, and the Arizona Department of Corrections. The Secure Care team works with facilities to support and monitor the successful reentry of students in secure care facilities to public schools and post-secondary opportunities.
