Early Childhood Block Grant
Purpose
The Early Childhood Block Grant is administered through the Arizona Department of Education, and promotes student achievement by providing additional funding for early childhood programs. Funding is directly available to public school districts and charter schools who serve children in kindergarten programs, and grades one, two and three.
Method of Funding
Early Childhood Block Grant (ECBG) funds are allocated to all Local Education Agencies (LEAs) that serve children in Kindergarten through third grade. The allocation amount is based on the number of pupils in kindergarten programs and grades one, two, and three who were eligible for free lunches during the prior fiscal year under the National School Lunch and Child Nutrition Acts (42 United States Code Sections 1751 through 1785).
Program Requirements
LEAs who use ECBG funds for kindergarten through third grade programs should have written goals and objectives regarding student outcomes and a developmentally appropriate method for collecting information concerning program effectiveness. The goals and objectives should target student outcomes that would not be possible without utilizing ECBG funds. Requirements are listed in further detail in the Early Childhood Block Grant Policy Manual.
ECBG Application
Application for the Early Childhood Block Grant must be made online through the Arizona Department of Education Grants Management System.
