Why the Symposium?

Arizona public K-12 schools need effective partnerships to help advance student achievement and prepare students for higher education and the workforce. This event will focus on developing capacity to create and sustain business partnerships with Arizona K-12 schools and districts.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Early Literacy – Explore how business partners and educators can participate in or replicate “Read On Arizona,” a movement to ensure our youngest children are reading at grade level by third grade.
  • Career Exploration – Hear different ways businesses and educators are partnering to introduce career opportunities to students, as early as middle school.
  • STEM – Learn about key initiatives that promote career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and the link to business.

Participants will:

  • Understand criteria for best practices in business-education partnerships.
  • Identify approaches to overcoming barriers between business and education.
  • Identify ways to build capacity through partnerships.
  • Become more informed about resources available to them that will support effective business-education partnerships.
  • Learn about the roles classroom teachers and business volunteers play in connecting students to their learning.
  • Develop a “laundry list of opportunities” for partnerships (e.g., volunteer opportunities, involvement in afterschool programs and career exploration activities, professional development, etc.).
  • Have an opportunity to network with educators and business representatives.

Who should attend?

  • Business representatives and small business owners.
  • District/school administrators, volunteer coordinators, public relations professionals, and foundation leaders.
  • Parent group leaders and other community leaders with an interest in K-12 education.
